A Community Growing Initiative
As our seed potato stock is on order, it’s time to start telling you of the varieties you can get from us this season. Two first earlies to begin with – Duke of York and Red Duke of York.
Duke of York are an old heritage variety dating from 1891. They are an oval shaped tuber with creamy white flesh and are a great all round cooking potato.
Red Duke of York are a red skinned derivative of the above, apparently first found in 1942 amongst a crop of white Duke of Yorks. These are also a great all round cooker.
All of our seed potatoes are free for everyone. Schools and community groups should send us a message to have stock allocated and everyone else can pick these up at the events we will be taking part in around March. Event details will be posted soon!
