A Community Growing Initiative
July newsletter
Our Growing Season
It’s been a wet year so far here in Aberdeen, and we are probably about 3 weeks behind last year in terms of our productivity. We have lifted a couple of shaws of first early seed potatoes, but will hold off another couple of weeks before lifting the rest, and will post up photos onto our Facebook page and website when we do. We know some of you are faring better, and it is great to see that there has been good cropping elsewhere, so please continue to let us know how you are getting on by messaging us or posting photos and stories onto our social media pages – we love to hear from you and share information with others.
Shoebox Competition
We are running a competition for children to individually create a garden in a shoebox. You can be as creative as you like, you can build it around a theme – rock garden, bee friendly, sensory and so on. It’s all about getting growing!
The winner will receive a gardening voucher of £20.

Volunteers
One Seed Forward is a community initiative run by volunteers, and we are looking for more people to come and join us in the work we are doing. With the school holidays just starting, we need some support in maintaining the school gardens we have worked on with pupils particularly in the Northfield, Woodside and Sunnybank areas of Aberdeen. If you would be able to lend some support in weeding and watering for an hour or two each week, we would love to hear from you.
We are getting more requests from other groups and organisations asking for help in setting up food growing capabilities. We are also looking to expand our activities in and beyond the Aberdeen City & Shire boundaries, so if you are interested in getting involved and would like to discuss volunteering opportunities, please send us an email to oneseedforward@gmail.com.
Happy growing!
